This traditional market, with infrastructure dating back to 1938, has a captivating history. Initially, it was built as the San Camilo de Lelis church in 1817 by the Red Cross order. After the devastating earthquake of 1868, the market was abandoned and, for many years, it served as a military hospital and school. The San Camilo Market is a witness to Arequipa historical events and has become an integral part of its legacy.
This place was designed by the famous French architect Gustave Eiffel and was declared a Monumental Historical Heritage site in 1987.
For approximately one hour, we will enjoy an exciting walking tour of this charming place.
