When you’re in Arequipa, you can’t miss a trip to Colca Canyon (Cañon del Colca), a stunning natural wonder that’s twice as deep as the USA’s Grand Canyon. This overnight trip is a great way to get there and experience southern Peru’s beautiful highland landscapes, villages and wildlife. You’ll visit a wildlife reserve and admire colonial architecture in two highland villages; see and learn about Andean condors; walk on the base of a volcano; and, of course, enjoy spectacular views of Colca Canyon. Transport and two lunches are included in the tour price but overnight accommodation is not; please see Additional Information below for more details.

Itinerary

  • We will go to the fascinating Colca Valley. On the way we will have a spectacular panoramic view of the Chachani, Misti and Picchu Picchu volcanoes. Then we cross the area of Pampa Cañahuas where we will see vicuñas crossing the high Andean lands freely. Peculiar villages around us. We will stop for lunch on our way to the hotel. Free afternoon to rest and enjoy the hotel and the optional visit to the thermal baths in the area. Stay at Colca Valley.

  • At dawn, we head towards the observation point of the Cruz del Cóndor. We will be observing the imposing flight of the condors, huge Andean birds that are the symbol of the Andean countries. The view lets us appreciate the great dimension of the canyon, considered one of the world’s deepest canyons. We will visit the towns of Maca and Yanque that still preserve its colonial churches. Lunch in a restaurant in the area. In the afternoon, departure to Arequipa City.
