Isla de la Luna
Know Isla de la Luna
Also called Coatí Island, it is another of the sacred sites for the Incas within Lake Titicaca. It is located next to the Isla del Sol.
Here you will find the Palacio de las Vírgenes del Sol or Iñakuyo, a well preserved building with 35 rooms and carved doors. The virgins of the sun were chosen women and they were taught various jobs to be priestesses. They could be Inca concubines and also be used for sacrifices.
At present, the island has a community organized around tourism, with activities such as crafts, agriculture and animal breeding.
